Corroded Copper

Corroded Copper
Corroded Copper is one of Columbia Coatings’ formulated specialty powders; a high-gloss turquoise blue vein-texture coating with copper-brown inset veining. The result is a finish that reads as both bold and aged, with the visual depth of a two-tone effect in a single-stage application.
This powder is a strong fit for custom fabricators, metal artists, furniture builders, gate and railing work and anyone who wants a finish that stands out from the standard color catalog. The high-gloss clear level amplifies the contrast between the teal base and the copper veining, giving it a look that satin or semi-gloss vein finishes simply can’t replicate.
Because Corroded Copper is a formulated powder, it’s mixed to order in our lab with a 1-4 business day lead time before shipping. A 4-oz tester is available if you want to run a test panel before committing to a full pound.
Note: Texture may vary based on thickness
Surface Preparation
Corroded Copper performs best on clean, properly prepared metal. Remove all oil, grease, rust, and mill scale before application. Sandblasting, iron phosphate pretreatment, or a chemical conversion coating will give you the best adhesion and long-term performance. Do not apply over bare, untreated metal if corrosion resistance matters for your application.
Film Thickness
Apply at 2-3 mils dry film thickness. Going outside that window will affect how the vein pattern develops — too thin and the veining won’t fully express; too heavy and you risk texture distortion. If the look matters as much as the protection (and with this color, it probably does), run a test panel first.
Cure Schedule
Cure at 400°F (204°C) metal temperature for 10 minutes. That’s metal temp, not oven air temp — factor in your oven’s lag time and part mass accordingly. Do not undercure. TGIC polyesters that don’t reach full cure will show reduced hardness and adhesion.
Storage
Store powder below 80°F (27°C) in a dry location. Keep sealed when not in use. Do not store near heat sources or in direct sunlight.
Coverage
Theoretical coverage is 124 sq. ft. per pound at 1 mil. At the recommended 2-3 mil film thickness, expect approximately 40-60 sq. ft. per pound in real-world conditions depending on part geometry and application efficiency.
Features:
- High-hiding characteristics
- Single stage coating (UV stable)
- Vein/Texture finish
