Safety Orange

SAFETY ORANGE
Safety Orange is Columbia Coatings’ high-gloss TGIC polyester in the bright orange that shows up on job sites, equipment, and safety-critical applications for a reason. It’s hard to miss and harder to ignore. Single-stage, no clear coat required, oil and fuel resistant.
With 80% gloss at 60°, 5B adhesion, and 1000-hour salt spray resistance, this isn’t a color that just looks the part. It holds up in the environments where safety orange actually gets used.
In stock. Ships within 1-2 business days. 4-oz tester and $1.00 swatch available.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Surface Preparation
Clean metal is non-negotiable, especially for safety and industrial applications where coating failure has real consequences. Remove all oil, grease, rust, and scale before application. Iron phosphate pretreatment or a chemical conversion coating is strongly recommended. Bare untreated metal will compromise adhesion and long-term corrosion resistance regardless of how good the powder is.
Film Thickness
Apply at 2.5-3.5 mils dry film thickness. This is a slightly heavier recommended build than some standard colors — stay in that window. Too thin and you’ll see coverage variation in the color; too thick and you risk edge pull and texture issues on complex geometry.
Cure Schedule
Cure at 400°F (204°C) metal temperature for 10 minutes. Metal temp, not oven air temp. Part mass and oven recovery time both affect how long that actually takes. A non-contact thermometer on the part is the right way to confirm you’re there.
Clear Coat
Not required. Safety Orange is a single-stage coating. Adding a clear coat is an option if your application demands additional UV protection or chemical resistance, but it is not necessary for a complete, durable finish.
Storage
Store below 80°F (27°C) in a dry location, sealed when not in use. Keep away from heat sources.
Coverage
Theoretical coverage is 128 sq. ft. per pound at 1 mil. At the recommended 2.5-3.5 mil film thickness, expect approximately 36-51 sq. ft. per pound in real-world application depending on part geometry and transfer efficiency.
Features
- High-gloss
- Oil & fuel resistant
